What should I do if my doormat is wrinkled?Updated 2 years ago
The cause of this issue stems from the fact that your doormat has been tightly rolled, transported in a truck, and stored in a warehouse for an indeterminate period, often in high-temperature conditions. The heat essentially "sets" the folds and wrinkles in place.
Here's a quick solution to safely, swiftly, and easily smooth out these wrinkles:
1. Unroll and lay it flat:
Upon bringing your new doormats home, the initial step is to unroll them and lay them flat on the floor for a few days. Sometimes, a bit of gravity and time are all it takes for the doormats to naturally regain their shape and flatten out.
2. Add weight:
- You can also attempt to flatten your rug by adding weight, which will alleviate some of the creases and encourage it to lay flat.
- If the doormat's corners are still sticking up or not lying flat against the floor, try placing a stack of heavy books or furniture on top of it. Leave the weight on the doormat for up to a week to ensure it stays flat.
3. Apply gentle heat:
Introducing heat to your doormats can help eliminate creases that hinder them from lying smoothly on the floor.
- Place the doormat in sunlight for a few hours to gently warm up the back of the mat. This heat will help loosen the fibers, making them more pliable.
- Alternatively, you can use a hair dryer to warm up the doormat. Be sure to use a low to medium heat setting and keep the hair dryer 6-9 inches away from the rug to prevent melting or burning. Always keep the dryer in motion and avoid concentrating heat on one spot for too long.
