How to clean the doormatsUpdated 2 years ago

Your doormat welcomes every shoe and paw that crosses your threshold, accumulating allergens, road debris, and decaying foliage. If you have pets, it might even harbor ticks or fleas. To minimize dirt and debris, consider these convenient tips:

1. Weekly dust-off:

Give your doormats a good shake or a hearty beating to dislodge loose dirt. This effective practice will remove a substantial amount of dust and grime, preventing it from being tracked into your home. You can also smack the mat against an external surface, like the sidewalk, to help loosen ground-in dirt.

2. Vacuum with a brush attachment:

Following the shaking, employ a brush attachment on your vacuum to ensure any residual dust is eliminated. Whether you use a small handheld vacuum or a conventional one, regular vacuuming will help maintain your doormat's cleanliness and prevent stains.

3. Gentle washing with baking soda:

If your doormat develops an unusual odor, avoid using strong detergents or coir matting during the cleaning process. Instead, try using baking soda. Sprinkle some baking soda on your doormat and let it sit for ten minutes. Afterward, gently scrub it in with a brush. Allow the mat to rest for an additional five minutes before vacuuming.

4. Ensure complete dryness before repositioning:

Prior to putting your doormats back in place, ensure they are entirely dry. Sweep or clean the area where the doormat typically sits to prevent future dust from finding its way onto the mat.
